Giving Back

Ever heard the term “Special Garbage”?  The garbage that comes off of the Cutler Mash in Logan Utah defines the term.  It can only be hauled out by boat but has been placed there for generations by farmer, hunters, and fisherman.  A huge thanks to the 50+ people for showing up and doing their part to give back to the marsh.  This is what 15 boats can do in a few hours of work.  An overflowing 30 yard dumpster with 40 carp removed that afternoon.

ISE In SLC

What a huge success!  I never thought talking could be so much fun.  Thank hevens our voices kept coming back the next morning.  Thanks to all that were involved and now let’s go kill some carp!!!

ISE Show

Headed to the ISE show this weekend to support the Utah Bowfishing Association.  Their mission statement is “To reinstate an ecological balance in Utah waterways.”  Killing more carp means more duck food which means more ducks.  Im in!!!

Interesting

Sorry for taking the last month off.  Life has definitely thrown me a curveball, but I guarantee I will win….lol.   I learned some new info.  Did you know the Great Salt Lake has the biggest inland wintering population of common Goldeneyes?  Got that info from Josh who was talking to a biologist last week.  He was from the University of Utah and was out shooting Teal and Shovelers to do some samples on. 

Needless to say, I went looking for those birds yesterday.  Forest Dawson was kind enough to drive his boat and we put approximately 65 boat miles on looking.  Must not be winter enough out here cause we didn’t find em.  I’m pretty sure we covered all the hot spots they would have been but I think one more trip after another freeze will tell the story for the year.

Utah Mud Motor Assoc

Waterfowl Addiction will be attending the Utah Mud Motor Association’s annual duck shoot this Saturday.  This is the 4th year they have been hosting this shoot and every year is an absolute riot.  What happens is they get a core group to bring out their Lake Bonneville Layout Boats, usually around 8-10 boats.  Then they absolutely bury these boats in approximately 1000 decoys and shuttle people in and out as they finish.  This is a great opportunity for fathers and sons to hunt together, or just to be introduced to layout hunting all together.  It’s also another reason to get all your buds to come hang out with some great people.  The tender boats pick up and tag the birds so everything is legit and then haul them in for a great chili breakfast/lunch to help keep them warm.  Good people doing good things.  Everybody’s invited to Utah Saturday….lol.

Good Times

Another epic good weekend.  Spent the last three days with 4 great friends in Idaho wacken em…..lol.  We didn’t get rained on until sunday and it was one of those constant drizzles from 6am all the way until 12pm when we shot our final bird and picked up.  Here is a pic from Saturday morning….the only pic I got before my battery died (rookie…I know).  Thanks to all involved and sorry about the window Mr. Hotel Manager.  HAHAHA…..ooops!

Love having a good dog

These little dogs make life so much easier!!!!! From left to right is Chuck Harson’s  dog Gunner (5), My dog Tessa (3), and Josh Noble’s Teal (1).   All 3 dogs hold steady and honor each other’s retrieve’s like trained professionals.  This weekends Idaho’s trip will put them all back together again an I can’t hardly wait.

Round #2

Headed back up to Idaho!!!!  Our 1st trip was such a success that we are headed back.  Hitting the road Friday morning.  Now all I have to do is get rid of this cold and get my voice back.

First Snow

Woke up to snow on the ground this morning.  It has been cold, rainy, and windy out here for the past few days.  We are expecting more of the same for a couple more.  Saturday’s hunt was good but, the rain didn’t let up enough to make it out yesterday.  It will be interesting to see how the rest of the week shapes up.  Sounds like we might be headed back to Idaho for round 2.
